Orange and Brown were made as prototypes for Red, a susbtitute for Pink, they combine Pink's lefover essence with Yellow(who did the experiments) Red has mostly PInk's essence on him, but also a bit of Black Diamond's given why he came out male, Orange and Brown all tall as the other diamonds as they mostly have Yellow's essence and not much of Pink's

Green and Purple were made by stolen essence (Pinks, Blues and Yellows) by Black Diamond, who also put some of his on them (hence they are male)

cyberpunk at its core is about speculative dystopia. fantastical developments that should benefit society but exist in a system fundamentally designed to beat people down. alluring transhumanism imprisoned by money, class, and other axes of oppression. it's about the real world issue of new and exciting technology corrupted by the world that produces it.

armored core stands out against the common war stories in mecha. it's about gig workers risking their lives thanklessly to kill poor people just to survive and get ahead. even while the entire system around them crumbles

dorohedoro is a story about a stratified society where incredible magic that could be shared to benefit others is used in petty arguments and 'experiments' on those treated as subhuman. it's about how hierarchy creates struggle for everyone, but the blood and tears always runs down to the bottom.

i do love the basic cyberpunk aesthetic. the edgerunners kind, the blade runner kind, like ghost in the shell and gunnm. sci-fi, cybernetics, robots and cities are dear to me. but when you put on the skin of a dystopian genre without knowing what the bones look like, you make something that isn't just bad. it's insulting.

i live here. i know how it goes. the robot dogs are cops and my smartphone was obsolete when i bought it. the air quality is garbage and my health is a mess because my government treats corporations more like people than me, even though we can magically cure or prevent almost any ailment. there are more vacant houses than homeless people. it's theft to take food out of the garbage.

cyberpunk is a city full of vacant buildings and streets full of poor people. it's a raspberry pi duct taped to a cybernetic arm to intercept advertisements before they reach your brain. it's a gig economy that forces you to work overtime just to get paid enough to eat. isn't it frustrating? isn't it frustrating that we have to live like this? flying cars, body augments, virtual reality, and we still live like this.

Please Reblog, I'd like to design a cheap braille typewriter (prototyping by 3d printing, final design will be machined) I stumbled upon linked YouTube short and a thought: "designing 6/8 button typewriter is within my technical capabilities"

I have many design questions I wish I could test out

My roadblock is I don't know anyone who's visually impaired, and casually seeking random place to peddle my soon-to-be-invention is not something I'm capable of

Many design questions:

Paper type: what is minimal quality/density of paper for dots to be readable. Can thermal receipt paper be used for notes?

Embossed vs punched out: is that significant for the typewriter to not break paper? It's important for "undo", but that's pretty far in my building a typewriter plan

Typewriter size: My initial idea was something like a portable cash register with receipt paper spool and little tray for it to glide along (I quickly realized it's a bad design because it can't fit more than 7 characters, or I can make infinite scroll of a single line with questionable ergonomics). Ultimately is related to page size, so what would be best for it? A4 standard paper? Is being portable important?

Keyboard layout: Perkins Brallier have all it's buttons inline forming long row. Wouldn't single-hand keyboard in similar layout as braille dots be more convenient? (straight grid or mimicking angle of computer keyboard letters)

Typing feedback: should typed letter be instantly accessible and not obstructed by typewriter? Maybe typing with one hand and instantly proof-reading with another hand?

Typewriter or printer?: alternatively, I can make a little annoying-noise-making servo-powered printer that will punch out text. Arduino or Raspberry PI based (I have experience with both) It would be USB powered most benevolent printer, because it don't require ink to work

Dinnertime (something cooked by Gale out of a nice selection of what the group has found and bought) at camp Tadfool, and here's some headcanons I have on food preferences of the lot:

Shadowheart – Omnivorous and a little picky, she’s sort of figuring out what she likes again and as always enjoys flexing her opinions. Loves fruits and nuts, and has a surprising taste for rare meats. Sometimes forgets to eat or looses track in the middle of a meal without reminding.

Lae’zel – Likes meat, meat, and more meat. Will add some variety into that but gith are biologically highly carnivorous. Has a real like of Bauldiran seafood (especially octopus and crustaceans) as it’s more akin to what’s available on the astral plane and in Gith rations, but will gladly tear into a steak or kebab. She can eat an absolutely terrifying volume for her frame, which she says is also normal.

Astarion – Stuck on that good old liquid diet, he is right that blood taste can be affected by things like age, lifestyle, and species, but he’s honestly not that into the distinction (and he hasn’t actually tried enough sapient varieties in a thoughtful way to have any real taste for one vs another, plus it does all taste good to him.) While he’ll always wax poetic, honestly just a human in good health tastes best to him (despite Tav letting him drink off of her first, in retrospect her tiefling blood has a faint smokey/spicy taste he doesn't quite like as much.)

Wyll – A real cruiser and grazer, likes a nibble of this and a bit of that and some of this. He’s so used to camp rations and foraging it seems to have sort of translated into a real love of charcuterie. Tends to get into things before they are cooked for a nibble. Still quite mannerly about things and his mess kit is kept immaculate.

Gale – A meat and potatoes kind of guy. Big on pasta and noodles. He’ll eat his veggies but he prefers them smothered in cheese or cream sauces. A bit like a big kid, but he he has the cooking skill to pull off fancier versions of childhood staples (and, of course, cooks in good variety for the tadfool crew, quick to show off his skills and breadth of knowledge.)

Karlach – Member in good standing of the clean plate club. Likes pretty much everything you put in front of her, but her favorites are big rare cuts of meat, meat pasties and pies, and other easy sources of protein like eggs and cheese. Tieflings like/need a slightly higher proportion of meat proteins in their diet than humans, but aren’t as extreme as the Gith. Karlach still likes pretty much everything though, and gets excited over tasty fruit, veg, and herbs too.

Tav – Was a very picky eater as a child but has mellowed with age and experience and likes pretty much everything, although some textures still put her off a bit (she’ll grudgingly eat things like casseroles and things with wet bread, but she’s not a fan – although she doesn't outwardly gripe.) Has a big sweet tooth and is a real fan of a lil treat.

Bonus: Astarion, Shadowheart, Karlach, and Tav stop for a quick rest and have a snack of some foraged nuts (walnuts) and berries (raspberries.) I know walnuts that aren't removed from their skins make quite a mess, and Karlach's hands are getting quite stained:

Astarion can't enjoy much, but blood is mostly water and fresh water is always good.

The UK no longer has end to end encryption thanks to Keir Starmer’s Labour government reanimating the zombie policy that is the Snoopers Charter, first peddled by Theresa May’s Tory government and rejected by the public.

Apple withdrawing end-to-end encrypted backups from the UK "creates a dangerous precedent which authoritarian countries will surely follow".

UK now likened to authoritarian regimes and why Starmer won’t challenge Trump since he is in lock step with US policies, openly goes after sick, disabled, pensioners and poorest, increasing their hardship rather than tax the mega rich. US policy is UK policy.

So what does this mean for Apple users in the UK?

All your data in the cloud is no longer secure in comparison to having ADP enabled and can be accessed by the government upon request. The GDPR is all but dead in the UK, there are now so many government policies that snoop on us by the back door with even news outlets online now charging us for access without *cookies enabled (data farming you whilst you read with no option to opt out unless you pay)

I checked with the ICO myself and it is a fully approved policy despite its contradiction to the rights of consent, removed in the process.

If you want a workaround here are my suggestions

Cancel your iCloud storage, your data will stay on the cloud until the renewal date, use that time to back it up locally or on a flash drive.

Change your iMessage settings to delete audio messages after 2 minutes and permanently delete messages after 30 days.

Alternatively, use a third party messaging app with a delete on read feature and disable Apple iMessage altogether.

If you are tech savvy you can set up a USB drive or flash drive directly into your router hub (you should have at least one USB slot, some have two) and use FTP to back up over wifi, you can do this on any device, you don’t need a desktop.

Use a VPN service or set one up. If you’re really technical you can use a Raspberry Pi to do this, but you will need to hard code it. Think Mr Robot.

This change does not impact sensitive data like medical details which remain end to end encrypted.

october 1st 2024: drafts!

preacher: i'm attaching slightly improved versions of our original drafts, but i'll also include mine and scott's garbage sketches under the cut because i think they're a little bit funny

this is a slightly revised version of my original concept for "APRIL".

the main functionality i wanted for "APRIL" was for her to be able to read out words from the templeOS god word app, and ideally without needing keyboard input – hence the microphone. ideally all of her parts are going to fit inside a hollowed out mannequin or doll, which will probably just be the torso, so that she's more portable. for the same reason, i want her to run off a power bank – i want to be able to take her places!

if we manage, we're going to give her an animated LED face which moves to indicate when she's speaking. the way i first pitched it, i wanted it to also change a bit depending on how she "felt" – for example, frowning if the environment was hotter than ideal for the raspberry pi to operate on. but that's a bit beyond our current scope right now. i don't think we even ordered a thermostat.

scott drew the following wiring diagrams based off my original sketch. here revised digitally for readability's sake.

scott: I decided to go with the raspberry pi zero 2w because it's what I've got experience coding on, it's relatively cheap for the "brains" of the operation (heh) and can perform both tasks from the godword prophecy generation, speaker operation and led matrix operation simultaneously. Plus its small enough to keep the circuit lightweight and fit inside the initial mannequin design.

This drawing fits no kind of engineering standard by the way lol. It was an initial sketch closer to a wiring diagram to see how it'd physically setup and wrap my head around transforming it from mains power to being theoretically portable and running on powerbanks. Unfortunately the LED matrix is really fucking power hungry so needs its own power supply of really specific voltage and current draws hence all the converters.

Also because Im using the smaller and cheaper pi, as oppossed to a stronger system like the pi4, it doesn't have any audio out jack so I plan to use the micro usb for audio out which means yet again I need another adapter for a soundcard and usb to micro usb adapters and all that jazz. Usually sound out can be done through the GPIO pins but the LED matrix takes so many pins that I cant really take anything form them so I had to look for other ways of doing it. Plus this way I get to add a soundcard so if we wanna add microphone support or anything later on we can :)

(Also this is all a little obtuse because I'm trying to do it as much as plug and play and screw terminal style as possible rather than actually solder connections for ease of access and initial setup, but this also works for modular design and component swapping later too so its cool.)

middle!soap and gaz who are balls of sunshine and energy but also being traumatized and the tram working together to make them feel safe and comfortable

soap is a tidal wave of energy, he goes and goes until he crashes. always needing something to occupy his mind and body to keep him from spiraling. he loves lego, as well as puzzles, but his favorite are the electronics kits.

laswell had seen a few raspberry pi kits for sale one day and thought that they might intrigue soap. he always wanted to be tinkering in the bomb range when regressed despite being banned for safety, and these would let him experiment with electronics safely.

she was right, soap immediately jumped right into one and he was delighted that he could make working electronics, his favorite was the one that made a working computer. ever since laswell has always tired to bring at least one new kit or coding book for him.

he constantly tests boundaries, needing to know that he's still safe and cared for even if he breaks rules or messes up. price realized what was going on pretty quickly and whenever soap causes trouble the first thing he does is reassure soap that he still loves him.

gaz is a touch quieter then soap, a bit less inclined to break rules and test boundries, though he definitely knows how adorable he is and will use that to his advantage.

gaz loves building and making things, he loves lego as much as soap. where soap carefully constructs kits gaz loves to build creations from his imagination, often creating elaborate scenes.

when ghost introduced him to minecraft it was a revelation. it quickly became his favorite activities and he has worlds where he's created entire villages. he especially loves when soap gets into code and programming because he starts making mods for gaz that let him build even more elaborate creations.

his other favorite is the making dioramas, usually fantasy scenes, soap was so proud to use his knowledge of art to help laswell and price pick out paints and other art supplies for gaz's creations

gaz has a tendency to withdraw rather then push like soap when feeling insecure. feeling like he'd be causing trouble with his needs. this has been helped by soap and ghost being extremely affectionate towards him, ghost especially will seek him out for cuddles when regressed which helps in keeping gaz feeling secure and loved.

just the two of them being spoiled and loved by the whole team, being able to feel safe and happy and cared for.

Casting about for something to cook at Dun in Mara's January Arts & Sciences Day (because one should never pass up a chance to experiment on an audience, I feel), I found a recipe from Harleian MS. 4016 (an English cookery book from about 1450). It goes: Tart de ffruyte. Take figges, and seth hem in wyne, and grinde hem smale, And take hem vppe into a vessell; And take pouder peper, Canell, Clowes, Maces, pouder ginger, pynes, grete reysouns of couraunce, saffroñ, and salte, and cast thereto; and þeñ make faire lowe coffyns, and couche þis stuff there-iñ, and plonte pynes aboue; and kut dates and fressh salmoñ in faire peces, or elles fressh eles, and parboyle hem a litull in wyne, and couche thereoñ; And couche the coffyns faire with þe same paaste, and endore the coffyñ withoute with saffron & almond mylke; and set hem in þe oveñ and lete bake.

So the overall gist here is a pie of figs and raisins, salmon (or eel) and dates, pre-cooked in wine, with a layer of pine nuts, and flavoured with a set of sweet spices. The combination of fish, fruit and pine nuts was unusual enough that I couldn't quite guess at what it would be like (I'm usually good at this).

I cooked down about 600g of dried figs in half a bottle of white wine, and mashed them into not-quite-a-paste, along with the spices (black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, mace, and ginger and salt). I left out the pine nuts from that mix, since I'd be putting in more on top, and those things are _expensive_, and saffron, since it'd almost certainly be drowned out by the other spices, and I don't care about the colour there.

That went into a (bought) pastry case, and then the layer of pine nuts on top (after some debated, untoasted), and salmon and dates (poached in the other half of the bottle of white wine) on top of that. The salmon flakes nicely so that it's almost spreadable, the dates not so much. That got capped off with a pastry crust, which I glazed with milk (not having almond milk to hand, and again not being bothered about the saffron colour). The whole thing got a little over half an hour in the oven at 200C. It came out of the oven coherent, and not overflowing anywhere, which is frankly unusual in my pies.

It was fine. The tastes didn't integrate worth speaking of; it was fish alongside fruit, and the pine nuts kind-of vanished (I might toast them next time). Thinking about it, it needs something else to bring it together, and I reckon a sauce to apply over the whole lot is the way to go. What my palate wants with it is a sharp fruit sauce - raspberry, say - but the only raspberry sauce I can find around the same period is German, and noted by foreigners there as being unusual (thank you, Maestro Giano).

It is slightly more coherent, taste-wise, when re-heated, but applying grated cheddar cheese or a modern chutney-ish relish (Ballymaloe) was definitely the thing to make it work properly.

A few people at the A&S Day had suggestions - lemon, a white-ish sauce, probably not garlic considering the fruit - and I poked around a bit in godecookery.com to see what I could find. There were a couple of possibilities - a walnut and garlic sauce, a ginger and mustard (from the same manuscript, even) suggested for roast heron, a Lumbard mustard from the Forme of Cury, and slightly more exotically, a blackberry sauce from Martino.

However, there's a recipe for "breney" in the the Noble Boke off Cookery, which has a sauce: "put wyne in a pot and clarified hony saunders canelle peper clowes maces pynes dates mynced raissins of corans put ther to vinegar and sett it on the fyer. and let it boile then sethe fegges in wyne grind them and draw them through a strener and cast ther to and let them boile to gedur" - and that has basically all the same ingredients, so would work perfectly as a sauce for this pie. So next time (possibly with eels, for variety, if I can get hold of them), I'll try that. (There are two different versions of the breney in Two Fifteenth Century Cookery-Books, too.)

need a bit of advice on something rather new to me... i have been DYING to get into some semblance of diy electronics/robotics, specifically regarding the idea of building a flipper zero knockoff with a raspberry pi/esp32/arduino. or a hack rf one ripoff, etc. u get it? i wanna make a lil handheld pwnagotchi pet style device for rolljam rf shit, something that can copy and paste and send and receive rf signals, but homemade by my self....

TLK: Sweet-Tooth

(Don't worry guys it's just raspberry filling :p)

Kinda forgot how we got there but a chat I had with a friend had gotten to a point where we just started comparing TLK characters to types of pies, and they happened upon this image of a raspberry pie and thought it looked just like Zira, what with its colors and pointy shapes.

I then pointed out that I was able to find Zira's entire color scheme with it and ended up coming up with an art challenge: Choosing a random image of food that reminds you of a character and using colors from said image to make a simple art of said character.

To really turn this into an art exercise, I experimented with the Live Image Trace feature on Adobe Illustrator to give this a sharp, clean look. Just felt like doing something different.

This is for BOTH people who consider themselves artists and those who don't. It doesn't have to be a comic. A ZINE CAN BE ANYTHING :D It can be a tech tutorial, it can be a comic, it can be flash fiction, it can be a local history guide, it can be Street Fighter II Turbo strategies printed out to be left in arcades, it can be anything!

The video below explains the process better than I could probably in text (I suck at conveying thing through text). My video also has a tl;dr that I would appreciate everyone read before submitting.

Also, you may know me for my "Raspberry Pis are for paypigs" video where I try to advocate for the upcycling for ewasted Chromebooks.

I've been into the idea of leaving around Zines for a while. Every time I walk into a coffee shop or local business, I think "wow, I really would wish there was something cool to read." So I started making things to put there: 8 small 2.5 inch panels, folded into one 2.5 inch square for those interested to unravel. I put them inside of these origami boxes that a learned how to make, ones with a logo printed on them.

So far I've made: a zine template (I call it a dog ear zine for some reason), a template for the box to put them in, a zine about using yt-dlp, a zine about a reindeer working IT (along with a collaborator) and (coming soon) a zine about a monster in a cave doing stuff. All of the odg LibreOffice Draw template files to make your own zines or print out mine are on my archive.org page (linked at top of my Tumblr). I'd really like other people to try this 8 panel 2.5 inch zine format, and I'm willing to bribe people with sweet, sweet Gabe Newell bucks to do it. You can submit as many zines in this format as you want. Just make sure they're printed out and have pictures of both the front and back (plus other pictures if you want) . In the video I mentioned you can use my submit page, which is probably the easiest for me to keep track of. You can also use the #dogearzine hashtag to enter. Please read the video description before entering, though (which includes Youtube's and Tumblr's terms of service, though this is more of a youtube thing).

Also, and this is completely unrelated, there's a lot more to me than just the faux-clickbait Wojak thumbnails. I like doing tech, wrestling, japanese, vidya and other videos, but I love to throw art in whenever I can shoehorn it in. Like, the video where I go over inchworm, butterfly, colors 3D and flipnote sudomemo - colors 3D on a hacked 3DS was my sister's first experience with digital at (she's moved up to an iPad and Procreate). So, it hold a special place in might heart, as a lot of the things I talk about do. I made a Whomp video because I miss Ronnie. I made a Rockbox video because I wished more people used dedicated MP3 players and knew where and how to download music. I want to help people do interesting things. And I also want to thank anyone who read all of this. You are cool. I hope everyone who's able to can compete in this contest and challenge themselves to get out of their comfort zone, to try something new! Also, also, thanks for liking these posts, people on Tumblr. You all have cool blogs. (^o^)丿
